"Cheapfakes in the CEE Region – Major dangers and media manipulation threats"

The advancement of technology brings up constant “innovations” in the areas of misinformation. More recently, a new form of manipulation called “cheapfakes” has resurfaced. We’ve decided to bring together some of the leading experts in this field representing different countries from the CEE region and organize this 1-hour round-table online discussion panel. We are ready to equip you with practical tools and strategies for more resilient times! 
 
WHAT? A 60-minute Live Open Public Event, featuring an Expert Panel Discussion on the subject of new, dangerous forms of disinformation in the CEE region, with a possibility to get your questions answered by the experts during a 15-minute Q&A session at the end of the event. 
 
WHY? By looking at specific, local examples of the “cheapfake” manipulation in the CEE region, but also by analyzing their impact on the civic society, the media or ensuing political events, we will connect the dots and become more vigilant towards this form of manipulation. Let’s discuss how our CEE community can be more resilient and better protected from misinformation!

SPEAKERS’ BIOS: 
 
Dr Dren Gërguri is a lecturer at the Department of Journalism, University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina” in Kosovo. Since 2009, he also works as a journalist and is the author of “Log” show at Paper Radio. He was a guest lecturer in some European universities, including Marburg University (Germany) and the University of Wroclaw (Poland). Dren has conducted several media literacy and fake news trainings, in Kosovo and other Western Balkans countries. His last publications include “Kosovo: Political Crisis, One More Challenge Alongside COVID-19“, as well as a chapter on “Political Communication and COVID-19”, in a book published by Routledge. Diana Filimon calls herself “a philologist by formation, communication person by experience and an activist by choice”. She is the president and founder of the Forum Apulum Association, in Romania and a board member of the Digital Communication Network. Diana is involved in many international and national projects, and is driven by the ambition of fighting for democracy, tolerance and inclusion through various projects focused on human  rights and civic engagement. 
 
Dr Ciprian Cucu is an expert in countering disinformation and media literacy from Romania. He's a co-founder and vice-president of Forum Apulum, an NGO that works in civic engagement, civic education and fostering critical thinking skills. He has held a number of workshops on media literacy and countering disinformation, has published several articles on the topic, has a PhD. in educational technologies and is also a lecturer at the University of Alba Iulia. 
 
Katarzyna Sadło is a trainer and consultant with many years of experience in cooperation with non-governmental organizations. She has been cooperating with TechSoup as a trainer in the field of counteracting disinformation. Katarzyna has served as a long-time president of the Civil Society Development Foundation and is currently a member of the board of the Henryk Wujec Civic Fund for Poland. Apart from her involvement in the activities of non-governmental organizations, she is also an active commentator of public life in the social media, the author of one of the first Polish political blogs, and a columnist of "Plus Minus". - a weekend supplement to the daily “Rzeczpospolita” national broadsheet.
