Countering Disinformation Masterclass Panel Discussion

Phambano Technology Development Centre (NPC) in partnership with the Hive Mind community has scheduled the Countering Disinformation Masterclass Webinar on 31 August aimed at shedding light on the prevalent disinformation today. This panel discussion will focus on policy and legislation to counter disinformation. Attendees will gain insights and practical knowledge to become more discerning consumers of information.

Azola Dayile 
He is a practitioner in the fields of journalism, media, and communications currently attached to Media Monitoring Africa. I possess vast experience working in the media, humanitarian, and civil society sectors, undertaking, among others, the responsibilities of news reporting & analysis, advocacy, research & data analysis, critical literacy as well as community and youth development and (digital) communications management.
The Programme Manager for Advocacy, Litigation, and Lobbying is primarily responsible for
administrative and strategic tasks associated with media policy submissions, strategic litigation, research on policy issues, and articulating MMA policy position to the public for engagement and support and ensuring that all advocacy, legal, and policy projects have plans and budgets and are implemented according to plan.


Mathando Likhanya
Mathando Likhanya is a Director at PPM Attorneys. She completed her LLB Degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2011. Mathando joined the firm as a candidate attorney in January 2012. She completed her articles of clerkship in June 2014 and was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa on 18 August 2014.
She was promoted as a senior associate in 2016 and as a junior partner in 2017. She thereafter joined one of the big four audit and advisory consulting firms in 2018 as a commercial legal advisor in General Counsel Office before returning to the firm as an associate director in March 2020. She was promoted as a director on 1 January 2022.
Mathando’s core areas are commercial, regulatory and compliance law, media and advertising, information and communications technology (ICT) and employment law.

Willson Tarusarira – Project Manager

Willson is a Zimbabwean Disability Human Rights Specialist with solid national, regional and international experience in disability issues. He has extensive experience in non- profit organization work. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Zimbabwe. He also holds a post Graduate Diploma in Disability studies from the University of Cape Town. Willson holds a Master of Philosophy Degree specializing in Disability Issues from the University of Cape. He is currently a PhD candidate in Health and Rehabilitation Studies at Stellenbosch University. He has a passion for disability issues among Refugees and asylum seekers.

Tshepiso Hadebe
 
She is a Junior Legal Consultant at PPM Attorneys. She completed her LLB studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2018 and currently working on her LLM in Business Law. She has been in the Technology Law space for three years during which she has gained experience in tech law and policy development at national, regional, and international levels aimed at increasing the benefits of technology and innovation on the African continent.  She also has experience working on issues relating to information rights, data privacy, emergent technologies, and freedom on the Internet.
