The Digital Activism Program is TechSoup's global initiative dedicated to strengthening civil society’s resilience and capacity to adapt to evolving digital challenges, counter disinformation, mobilize communities, and build stronger networks across regions. Since its launch in 2018, the Program has expanded from Europe to Latin America, Africa, and beyond, ensuring that activists and organizations worldwide have access to the resources, learning, and skills they need.
To advance these efforts, the Digital Activism Program provides online and offline learning opportunities, direct funding for local initiatives, and collaborative spaces where civil society actors can exchange knowledge and support one another.
At the heart of the Digital Activism Program is Hive Mind, the Program’s dedicated online learning space. Designed for activists, trainers, and civil society organizations, Hive Mind offers free self-paced courses, expert insights on the blog, practical tools, and networking opportunities that help civil society actors build resilience, respond to digital threats, and learn from one another.
A Global Program with Local Impact
Central to the Digital Activism Program is the belief that effective digital activism is rooted in local realities. Through a network of regional Partners, the Program provides practical training, research-based insights, and direct support to civil society organizations (CSOs), activists, and experts working in complex and often high-pressure environments.
The Program operates on three key levels:
Building Resilience – equipping civil society actors with practical knowledge, skills, and expertise to navigate online threats and continue their mission.
Strengthening Communities and Networks – fostering peer learning, collaboration, and knowledge exchange through Hive Mind resources, the Community of Practice around the MEGAPHONE event for activists and CSOs, and cross-network initiatives that contribute to a more connected civil society worldwide.
Driving Local Action and Impact – funding and supporting grassroots solutions through Local Actions, small-scale initiatives that translate learning into immediate, community-driven change.
Together, these approaches create a comprehensive ecosystem of support, ensuring that civil society actors are not just reacting to challenges but actively shaping the digital landscape in which they operate.
Impact at Scale
Since 2018, the Digital Activism Program has:
Reached over 230,000 people directly, including CSO professionals, activists, educators, experts, and local community representatives.
Engaged more than 10,000,000 people indirectly - through learning resources, campaigns, and outreach efforts.
Supported 20 Partners implementing Program activity on the ground in 67 countries, ensuring regional expertise and local impact.
Behind these figures are thousands of activists and organizations applying new skills, tools, and strategies in their day-to-day work, often under difficult conditions. Through training, resources, networking, and funding, the Digital Activism Program helps civil society actors stay informed, connected, and prepared for the challenges ahead.
