Leveraging AI for Civil Society Organisations

During this session you will learn how to streamline and enhance daily operations in your organization using AI. We will guide you on how to leverage AI tools on three levels: individual use, teamwork and organisational level. You will hear about practical use cases, useful tips on AI-driven workflow transformation. We will explore bringing AI to nonprofits through the change management lens and discuss how to foster an experimental mindset to empower your organisation with the potential that AI can bring.

Session Leader: Maria Makowska

Maria is the Training and Education Program Senior Manager at TechSoup. Responsible for developing and managing educational portfolio in TechSoup. Experienced instructional designer of various learning formats targeting nonprofits, especially on digital transformation and digital skills. She leads the design, facilitation, and development of online and offline training, including cultivating and expanding a network of trainers and educators throughout Europe. She has more than 15 years of experience in working with the nonprofit sector, especially in managing educational programs and supporting groups as a trainer and facilitator.

Centering what matters: a hope-based strategy for lasting change

This workshop session offers an interactive introduction to hope-based strategizing and organizing, designed by human rights advocates to help articulate and advocate for the change we want to see. Using the "vision, values, voices" framework, the session will present new perspectives on campaigning for social change, drawing from neuroscience, cognitive linguistics, and behavioral science. Through a blend of presentations and group activities, participants will gain insights into brain science, basic narrative (re)framing, and futures thinking, while also learning how to apply narrative strategies to their work.

Session Leader: Aminata Bouaré

Berlin-based hope-based practitioner and facilitator Aminata Bouaré (she/her) helps nonprofits and grassroots organizations strengthen their values, vision, and messaging for social change on various issues across Europe, especially in transnational contexts. With experience in the circular built environment, social entrepreneurship, and philanthropy, she is active in various fields, including democratic resilience, climate responsibility, community empowerment, and social justice.

Data Literacy and Activism: Tools to Address Bias and Advance Inclusion

Session Leader: Kuba Piwowar

Kuba Piwowar is a sociologist and cultural scientist who holds a PhD in the humanities. He specializes in the socio-cultural aspects of new technologies, data activism, and research methods. He is also a Humanity in Action senior fellow, where he worked on a project focused on data literacy and data activism. In 2022, he published a book titled "Excluding Technologies. Measurement, Data, Algorithms," in which he examines the sources of bias in new technologies and proposes solutions to overcome them. Additionally, he serves as an assistant professor at the Department of Culture and Media at SWPS University in Warsaw and is a member of the Polish Sociological Association. Kuba holds an MA diploma in sociology, completed postgraduate Gender Studies at IBL PAN, studied art history at Collegium Civitas, and pursued Marketing Academy at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Between 2008 and 2024, he worked at Google, initially as an analyst and later as an advisor to key business partners. During this time, he collaborated with the company's business partners in Poland and the USA on various topics, including performance marketing, cloud computing, machine learning, and innovation management.
